Explanation of Business Status

Explanation of Business Status
Inactive status – Any business that has determined that it is no longer legally required to update information, and that, pursuant to 100.180(m) of Board Rules and Regulations, has taken the steps necessary to be placed in ‘inactive status’. A business that is designated as ‘inactive’ is not required to update its information and is not subject to the provisions governing prohibited contributions.

Active status – Businesses labeled as being in ‘active status’ include both businesses with the continuing duty to update information, as well as those businesses that are no longer required to update their information, but that have not taken the steps necessary to be placed in ‘inactive status’. Those businesses having a continuing duty to update their information are also subject to the provisions governing prohibited contributions; those who qualify for ‘inactive status’, but that have not taken the steps necessary to be placed in ‘inactive status’, are not required to update their information and are not subject to provisions governing prohibited contributions. Questions may be directed to the Division of Campaign Disclosure at 217-782-4141.
