Public Act 97-0681, which became effective on March 30, 2012, amends section 7-43 of the Election Code (10 ILCS 5/7-43). This amendment provides that a person who files a statement of candidacy as an established party’s candidate at a General Primary Election or who voted an established political party’s ballot at the General Primary Election may not file a statement of candidacy as an independent candidate or as a different established party’s candidate at the immediately following General Election.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has set up a special election day “hotline” telephone number to assist voters at next Tuesday’s Consolidated Primary Election, board officials said today.
The Chicago area “hotline” telephone number is (312) 263 7367. For downstate voters, calls will be taken at the Board’s Springfield office at (217) 782-4141. Telephone for the hearing impaired is: (217) 782 1518.
Election specialists will be available Election Day from 6 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Chicago and from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in Springfield to answer voter questions and respond to complaints.
The polls are open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
